Hagia Irene (Aya Irini), located in the outer courtyard of Topkapı Palace, is the oldest Byzantine church in Istanbul (4th century) and the only one never converted into a mosque. Meaning "Sacred Peace," it served as the original patriarchate before Hagia Sophia. It now serves as a concert hall and museum.
