Rahmi Koç Museum
The Rahmi M. Koç Museum is Turkey's first major industrial and transport museum, founded by prominent businessman Rahmi M. Koç. Established in 1994, it is located on the northern shore of the Golden Horn in Istanbul and showcases the historical evolution of industry, communication, and transportation.
Founding Vision: The origins of the museum are rooted in Rahmi Koç’s lifelong passion for collecting industrial, maritime, and aviation items.
The Main Building (Lengerhane): The primary exhibition space is housed in a historical building dating back to the reign of Ottoman Sultan Ahmet III (1703–1730), which was originally used as an anchor foundry.
Acquisition and Restoration: The Lengerhane building was purchased by the Rahmi M. Koç Museology and Culture Foundation in 1991 and meticulously restored to be opened to the public in 1994.
Expansion: The museum site later expanded into the historic Hasköy Shipyard, increasing the exhibition areas. Today, the expansive campus features thousands of artifacts ranging from vintage cars and classic planes to authentic submarines.
