Şerefiye Cistern
The 1,600-year-old Serefiye Cistern (Theodosius Cistern), located in Istanbul's Fatih district, is one of the city's oldest Byzantine water structures, built between 428–443 AD by Emperor Theodosius II. It features 360-degree projection mapping, offering a unique blend of history and technology, and is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
Location: Sultanahmet, Fatih, Istanbul.
Significance: Built during the reign of Roman Emperor Theodosius II, it was part of a major water system to store water for the city.
Architectural Structure:It is a structure built on an area of approximately 24x40 meters, 11 meters high, and consisting of 32 columns and 45 sail vaults.
Ottoman Period: After the conquest of Istanbul, it fell into disuse with the development of the aqueduct system, and the Arif Pasha Mansion was built on top of it in the 19th century.
Present Day: It was revealed in 2010 when the municipal building on top of it was demolished, and after restoration, it was opened to the public as a museum with 360-degree projection.
