Turkish Journalists Association Press Museum
The Press Museum (Basın Müzesi), operated by the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC), is Turkey's first and the world's fourth press museum. Located in the historic Çemberlitaş district, it showcases the evolution of journalism and printing technology.
Architecture: The building was originally constructed in 1865 in a Neo-Classical style by Saffet Pasha, who was the Minister of Education at the time.
Founding: The idea for a press museum was first proposed by TGC President Orhan Erinç in the early 1980s.
Former Use: Over the years, the historic mansion housed the Ministry of Public Education (Maarif-i Umumiye Nezareti) and the Istanbul University (İstanbul Darülfünun).
