The Basilica Cistern, also known as the "Yerebatan Palace," is a massive underground water reservoir built in the 6th century (532 AD) by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I to meet the city's water needs. With its impressive architecture consisting of 336 marble columns and mysterious Medusa head pedestals, it now serves as a museum.
